How much you really save with an eSIM versus roaming
This calculator compares the price of a MolaHop eSIM with what roaming would cost you on your carrier in the same destination. The MolaHop price is read live from our catalogue, so it's today's real price. The roaming side is an indicative estimate based on typical market ranges, because the exact rate depends on your carrier and your contract.
The rule almost nobody tells you: within the EU you don't need an eSIM
If you travel within the European Union on a plan from an EU country, your roaming is already included at no extra cost under the «roam like at home» regulation. In that case, a data eSIM adds nothing — and this calculator will tell you so plainly instead of trying to sell you something you don't need. An eSIM makes sense when you leave the EU: Japan, Turkey, Morocco, the United States, Thailand and every other destination where roaming gets expensive again.
The three types of roaming outside the EU
Not all roaming outside the EU costs the same. There are three scenarios. The first is destinations with a daily bundle, where your carrier charges a fixed amount per day with some data included — typically between €3 and €6 a day for 1 GB. Here the eSIM saving is real but moderate on short trips, and this calculator shows you that honestly. The second scenario is per-megabyte charging, which applies across much of the world without a bundle: rates can reach €12 per MB, figures that make nobody use their phone with any peace of mind. There, the eSIM doesn't just save money — it makes the trip usable. The third is free roaming, which within the EU covers European travelers and which some carriers extend to a handful of nearby countries.
Why the MolaHop price is exact and the roaming price is an estimate
There's an important difference in this calculator we'd rather explain than hide. The MolaHop price comes live from our catalogue: it's what you'd pay right now. The roaming price is a range-based estimate, because carriers change their bundles and promotions often, and the specific rate depends on when you signed up and which plan you have. So before deciding, verify your exact roaming rate with your carrier. What's certain is the MolaHop side.
How to use the calculator
Choose where you're traveling from, your destination and the length of your trip. The calculator will show you the estimated roaming cost, the real MolaHop eSIM price for that destination, and the saving. If you're traveling within the EU on a European plan, it'll tell you directly that you don't need an eSIM. And if we have a plan for your destination, you can go straight to buying it.
